Chapter 66

They came in and began to get Charles ready for his shower. “While you guys are hosing him down, I’ll order breakfast,” I said. I went into the living room and placed the order with room service.

The timing was perfect. Charles came out of the bedroom on crutches just as there was a knock on the door. A waiter wheeled a cart into the room and laid out breakfast for four.

I watched John and Joe each devour a huge amount of food and said, “You two must have worked up an appetite last night. I guess I don’t have to ask you whether or not you had a good time.”

“Gosh,” John said, “you didn’t hear us, did you?”

“No,” Charles said, “we didn’t hear a sound. Was there something to hear?”

John blushed and said, “We did get a little wild and for a moment forgot that we weren’t at home.”

“Not to worry,” I said. “We didn’t hear a thing, and even if we had, it wouldn’t have been a problem.”
