When he had done so, I pushed play on the video recorder.

He watched the tape and made copious notes in his little notebook. When it was finished, he asked to watch it again, and he made some more notes. Finally, he said, “How did you come by this?”

“Are we still in the confessional?”

“You bet.”

“As we told the officers, Philip knocked the guy out and we tied him up with our belts. However, instead of calling 911 right away, I made another call, and the person that I called made one or two calls. Two guys eventually showed up and carried him away for a couple of hours. When they brought him back, they put him right back where he’d originally fallen. I don’t know who they were, and I don’t want to know. I was assured that it would take a magnifying glass to find any evidence of an injection and that by the time the police had him in custody, all traces of the drug would have disappeared from his bloodstream.”
