Chapter 75

“Jake, we’re going to live here for the rest of our lives and raise our children here. We want it done right,” I said. “Get the plans drawn up, and Wonder Boy here will make the construction happen more quickly and efficiently than you ever thought possible.”

Philip contacted the Donald Brown people, and we arranged to do an interview with him at an Atlanta television station in a few days. I started going to the office half days and eventually full days, leaving Philip to oversee the construction projects, as well as the upgrading of the house wiring and other systems.

Richard and Bruce were sitting in the sunroom with us one evening a week or so after construction had begun in earnest. Richard noticed the scaffolding outside and said, “What’s up with the scaffolding, Charley? Is Gran having the house painted or something?”

“Or something,” I said. “Actually, we’re extending the second story out over the sunroom.”

“Why? This house is big enough already, isn’t it?”
