Chapter 84

The nursery was all that a nursery should be, with two cribs and chests of drawers with changing stations on top of them. There were two rocking chairs in the center of the room, and there was a small but adequate bathroom. “I see you’ve done a thorough job in here, as well,” I said as I pulled him to me and showed my appreciation.

We walked back into the study just in time to answer the intercom. It was Mrs. Goodman announcing that dinner was being served, so we went down and joined Gran in the sunroom, where the glass-topped table had been laid with dinner. After we’d begun eating, she asked me what I thought of the new master suite.

“Well, Gran, the nursery is perfect and the bedroom is spectacular, but the shower is a sybarite’s fantasy come true. I tried it just now, and I may have to use it once or twice more before I go to bed tonight.”

“That’s my Charles,” she said, and smiled.
