“What does that mean?” Noah said.
“I wasn’t going to mention this until it was a certainty, but I’m pretty sure the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and Chorus are going to do a concert version ofMefistofelenext year.”
“So?”
“Babe, the title role has your name all over it—it’s a perfect fit for your voice.”
“Do we have a recording?”
“You bet we do, one with the late Norman Treigle performing the title role, and he’s considered to be one of the very best at that role.”
“This may be a dumb question,” Noah said, “but why do people always say ‘the Boito Mefistofele’, rather than simply Mefistofele?”
“Don’t hold me to this, but I think it’s probably to differentiate it from Gounod’s Faust.”
“That makes sense, I guess.”
“If you want to be sure, ask Agnes sometime.”
