“Let’s take the Volvo,” Noah said.
“Why?”
“It needs to be driven, and I’m going to drive because you’re just a bit too tense.”
“Whatever.”

IN THE CAR. NOAH said, “I’ll call Bobby and let him know where we are.”
“Handle it, babe.”
They rode in silence. Noah could see that Tom was lost in thought, and he wasn’t inclined to disturb him. As they neared Orlando, Tom’s cell phone rang.
“Hi, Mom,” Tom said. “We just passed the Altamonte Mall. … Okay, see you soon. … I understand, we’ll come up to the office instead of waiting in the parking lot.”
“What was that about?”
“Mary Alice wants Mom to take her back to the office and Mom wants us to meet them there.”
“Who’s Mary Alice and why does she need a ride?”
“She was Dad’s legal secretary for a number of years and she’s been his administrative assistant slash office manager for the last ten years at least. Someone from the office gave her a ride to the hospital.”
