Chapter 50

“Follow me,” she said.

The house was a classic example of understated elegance, which was about what he’d expected, given the way Cynthia dressed. The tour wound up on the second floor, and she said, “This was Tom’s room until he moved to Jacksonville.”

“Yeah,” Tom said, coming up behind them, “and it hasn’t changed all that much since then.”

“Surely you didn’t expect me to repaint and redecorate the minute you flew the nest?” she said

“Not at all. As soon as we shower and change, we’ll take you someplace nice for dinner, okay?”

“That would be nice,” she said. “I’ll see if I can get us a reservation somewhere.”

She headed downstairs, and Tom closed the door and said, “Come here, you.”

He grabbed Noah and kissed him fiercely. The kiss started to evolve into other things until Tom broke it off. “We don’t really have time for that.”

“Is the shower big enough to accommodate both of us?”

“You bet.”
