Finally he said, “I sure as heck didn’t see any of that coming. It’s a lot to take in at one time.”

“It’s a good thing you never got bitter about your father. Now that I think of it, I don’t remember you ever saying anything bad about him.”

“No, I haven’t,” Tom said. “I got over being pissed off at him a long time ago, but all this is going to take some getting used to.”

“No shit.”

They lapsed into silence once again, both lost in thought, until Tom said, “By the way, babe, there’s something I forgot to tell you in all the excitement.”

“What?”

“How would you like to spend most of next summer in England?”

“You’re kidding me, right?”

“Not at all. I heard from the artist management company earlier this afternoon. They’re tentatively planning to book me for half a dozen or so concerts between early June and mid-August. There may be at least one engagement in Paris as well.”

“Can you get the summer off from church?”

“Sure.”
