“You could have waited for me,” Noah said.
“I didn’t want to slow you down.”
“You’ve got an answer for everything, don’t you?”
“I try.”
When Tom was settled at his desk, he said, “I’ve got some paperwork to do before my first class.”
“Are you gonna be okay?”
“I don’t know why not. My classroom is just down the hall.”
“What about students with individual lessons?” Noah said.
“Most of them are tomorrow in one of the practice rooms.”
“I hate to leave you like this.”
“Give me a kiss, then go to class,” Tom said.
“Okay.”
Noah kissed Tom thoroughly and went to the door, which opened before he could turn the handle.
“Come on in, Dr. Ambrose,” Noah said. “Maybe you can talk him into not overdoing things.”
“I’ll try,” she said.
Noah closed the door behind him, and Tom said, “Have a seat, Agnes. Excuse me for not getting up right now.”
“Don’t worry about it,” she said.
“What brings you to my office today?”
