“The joke’s on Uncle Joe now, isn’t it?” Noah said.

“Excuse me?” Rion said.

“One of the original parcels was an eighty-acre tract situated on both sides of I-10 right where a new interchange has already been approved. When the partnership of my late father and his brother was split up, Uncle Joe kept that parcel in exchange for everything else.”

“There aren’t any new interchanges being built in I-10 right now,” Rion said. “At least, not to the best of my knowledge.”

“Exactly.”

“Okay, then,” Rion said. “Unless there’s something else I can do for you, I’ll get right to work.”

In the car, Tom said, “Okay, that’s one thing out of the way. Now you need to call Dr. Ambrose and make an appointment with her.”

“Why?”

“To talk about all those offers. Remember? You asked her to become a sort of unofficial manager.”

“Oh, yeah. What with everything else, I guess it slipped my mind.”
