“This is fine,
thanks,” Santa said. He peered out of the window, but surely it was too
difficult to see anything on the common itself, despite the occasional street
light along the central path?
Nuri swivelled
around in his seat to stare at Santa. “Where are you headed?”
“Off home, of
course. I’ve got a hell of a To Do list tonight.”
“What do you
mean?” Eddy’s eyes were very large. Nuri wanted to hold him and tell him this
weird passenger meant no harm, but he wasn’t entirely sure if that were true.
“Think it
through, kid,” Santa said, not unkindly. “But don’t worry, it’ll all be done in
time. It’s one of those ‘warp in the space-time continuum’ things, you know?
That would have shut up those little oiks at the party who kept quizzing you on
the science of deliveries across the world, all in one night.”
