Chapter 30

“You leave that to Norman and me,” I said, “and we’ll take care of it.”

“Yes, Sir.”

Which was why we arrived a bit early for the Thanksgiving service, so we could take our dishes to the church kitchen. To be honest, Norm and Zeb took the dishes to the kitchen while Zeke and I went to the choir room. The Thanksgiving service wasn’t very long, and we really enjoyed the covered dish function—both turkey and ham had been prepared in the church kitchen, and there was a wide variety of dishes from which to choose, along with several choices of pie and cake for dessert. “He wanted to ask me if I’d be interested in submitting a bid to UNF for tuning all of the pianos on campus.”

“That’s great,” he said. “Not only that, it’s what you’ve been wanting.”

“No argument there,” I said, “which is why I told him yes.”

“Then why don’t you look happier about it?” Norm said.
