At my next Monday staff meeting, which had been moved back to four o’clock, I’d arranged for Clarence Ivory to meet with us. He was sitting in a chair to one side of my desk and drew curious looks as my crew filed in for the meeting. When they were settled, I said, “We have a special visitor today. Let me introduce you to Lieutenant Ivory from the Orlando Police Department.”
I introduced Gregg, David, and Janet to him. She had, of course, spoken with him by telephone several times, but they hadn’t met face-to-face.
“Lieutenant Ivory is here,” I said, “because three of our drag queen murders occurred in Orlando, and I want him brought up to date on that case when we get to it.”
To my surprise, everyone was relaxed and paid no attention to Crystal and Lamar. We went through the usual routine stuff; then David and Janet started discussing the main topic of interest.
