Chapter 69

Two hours later, Gregg called. The car with the two men and the bag had stopped at a rest area near Daytona Beach. Another car had pulled up beside it, and two men had gotten out of it and transferred the bag to their car. At that point, Gregg and his guys, with an assist from some local deputies, had arrested all four men and seized both cars and their contents. The bag had contained the remains of Leonard McPhail, or most of him—his throat had been cut, and his private parts were missing. All four men were on their way to Jacksonville and would spend the night in separate isolation cells. Leonard was on his way to the morgue, and the cars were being winched onto flatbed tow trucks for the trip back up I-95.
