AT THE AIRPORT in Asheville we rented a small SUV, knowing we were going to stop for lunch in Waynesville before we bought groceries and a six-foot Christmas tree. We arrived at the keypad of our gate in mid-afternoon.
“Oh my God,” Janet said as we drove down the driveway. “This is so great.”
“You should see it in June when the Rhododendron are in full bloom,” I said.
“Or in late October when the leaves are turning,” Mike said.
We pulled into the garage, gathered our purchases from the car, and carried them upstairs. Zeb and Zeke had stopped by earlier in the day to turn the heat on, so the great room was nice and comfortable. I took Thor out on the deck to let him have access to his run, and Janet followed me.
“I can’t get over how great that stream sounds,” she said. “It’s even better than you made it out to be.”
“We think it’s just about the most relaxing sound there is, and we love to get out here in a hammock and simply lie back and listen.”
