“We’re in,” Charles said. “Count on it. We’ll have to buy a bottle, but surely they have Burgundies in this shop that qualify.”
“You bet they do,” Andy said.
“What are we drinking this evening?” I said.
“We’ve already killed this one,” Jackie said, “so why don’t you and your guests pick out the next one?”
“Works for me,” I said. “Come on, guests.”
We perused the wines with Charles and Philip, finally selecting a Chateau Smith Haut-Lafitte, which we carried to the front counter.
“Very good choice,” the shop manager said, as he started to open the bottle, “and a good year as well.”
He very carefully split the bottle among the ten of us who were present, and we sampled it.
“Oh, yes,” I said, “that is very nice.”
“It’s better than nice,” Crystal said. “It’s darn good.”
