“Then let’s do it. But I’d like for it to be our secret for a while.”
“Okay, but why?”
“Think about the people we know. Every last one of them would want to help, and I want us to do this together.”
“Okay, but remember, I have to work.”
“Understood…. You can help weekends, maybe evenings, as well, if we don’t have anything else to do.”
“Agreed. Let’s go home and celebrate in the time-honored manner.”
“You talked me into it.”
THE NEXT THING on Chris’ agenda was the going-away party with his former coworkers at NAS. The party was held at a restaurant in Orange Park, but Chris really wasn’t in the mood for the occasion. However, he realized they meant well, so he put on a smiling face and, with Mickey’s help, managed to enjoy himself.
On their way home, Mickey said, “Those folks really, genuinely like you, babe.”
“Yes, they do, and I liked working with them.”
