Brian had also begun grad school, and had taken a small apartment in Gainesville to save the long commute. All of which meant that their time together that fall was extremely limited, so they tended to make the most of it—usually when Brody had both Saturday and Sunday off.

Sheldon had achieved some limited success with Jasper, and kept Brody up-to-date on what was happening between them.

“He’s a lot of fun in bed,” Sheldon had said, “but I don’t think he’s really into it, if you know what I mean.”

“No, Sheldon, I’m not sure I do know what you mean.”

“I think if the right woman came along, he’d start fucking her in a heartbeat, and forget about playing with me.”

“So he’s not really gay?”

“Only when he has to be to get off.”

“That’s kind of sad.”

“Yeah, and you’d be surprised at how much of that I’ve seen over the years.”

“Geez, Sheldon, you sound like an old fart when you talk that way. If you talk like that at thirty, what will you be like at forty or fifty?”
