Chapter 5: Let the Good Times Roll

A new day arrives and I got up, made some coffee, but this time I got breakfast for myself. I didn't like how I would stay without food until the class was over which was enough time for my stomach to start eating itself. So I bought some more package sushi which will be easier for me to hide and do my work. I went to my class but of course, Katy was not there. I do worry about how she will do good in her classes or at least pass. At the end of the day, I went back to my dorm room and wore my normal clothes, and went to where Katy was at the park. Thinking she would be in the same place because where else could she be. I made a quick jog to her and she seemed to be sitting at the tree eating an apple just waiting for me.

"Hey, what's up?"

"Hey, nothing much. Ready to work?"

"Yep got my workout clothes on."

"Your workout clothes still consist of you putting that hoodie on?"

"Yep unless I get really hot and sweaty."

"Whatever weirdo." She got up and threw the apple to the side. "Let's work on your sword handling." She brings out a smooth carved wooden stick. "Take this."

"Yep ." I grabbed it and she took out her sword. She started to examine it. After just a few seconds of her examining her own sword, I see something spelled at the end of the sword near the grip. "Rose?"

"Yes?"

"Wait what?"

"What? That's my last name."

"Oh.... Katy Rose. Sweet name."

Her face turns all red, "Th-thanks."

I think I have heard that last name before. My mom used to read me stories when I was young. Well... before she died. I don't know what happened to her but I will always remember the stories she told me late at night before I went to bed. How heroes from a specific family tried to save the world from the horrible monsters that kept coming to destroy the villages, cities, and life. Hold on, I think my middle school told us about these true heroes before.

"Wait, that can't be."

"What?"

"You are part of the Rose family. The ones in the stories!"

"Can you shut up?!?"

"I remember you guys disappeared after you realized you were losing the war."

"Yea and we are hiding. So shut up."

"This is insane."

Katy rolled her eyes and got upset. I was so excited that I wanted to ask a few more questions but she swung her sword and stopped right where my neck was. The blade was millimeters away from cutting a major artery.

"You can shut up and we can train. Or be a dumbass and I kill you on the spot."

I stood completely still, "Yep I'll be quiet." She lowered her sword and I took a breath of relief

"Good now take your wooden stick and follow my movements."

We went through 3 hours of sword slashing techniques and even went up to the tree for me to hit it a couple of times. It was the best dummy we can get for a zero-dollar budget practice training area. After that, we had an hour of sparring and Katy took out another wooden stick from her bag. It was a dual that kept getting me whacked everywhere even above the head. I don't even know how she managed to reach that high but that hurt nonetheless. She told me how to work on my defense and what to expect. We kept training for one more hour until again... She hit my shin so hard, I went down on one knee. As I went down, Katy swung up which hit me across the face. I was knocked down and heard her laughing. While I cry quietly, "This isn't fun."

She laughs, "Sorry you had to be the one on the wrong side of the stick."

"Oooowwww." Okay, I was being dramatic. "It's all good. I usually tell myself pain is gain no matter what."

"Good. You are not like the other students that complain about bruises on their backs for being thrown to the ground so much."

"Kinky," I said that as a joke.

"Oh my God, Shadow! Not like that!"

"Haha yeah I know, I'm kidding."

We sat down as the night was growing. Staring at the clouds. One of the clouds looked like a wolf howling into the night sky. The wind was blowing gently in our faces as it removes the sweat off our faces.

I break the silence, "Now I see why Sensei at the club told me you were the special student."

"Do you want to see magic?"

I was surprised, "Oh, um yea... do it."

Katy scooched herself to be in front of me and I adjusted myself as well. We were sitting face to face with our legs crossed and she pulls out her hand with her palm facing up. Her hand glows golden again like she did when she was trying to heal me. But this time tiny particles were moving upward. Those particles kept accumulating and all I could do was stare at them. It was dark already and the particles gave off a warm gentle glow. The particles then moved rapidly around to form a figure of what appeared to be a girl with long hair and a sword beside her. "Oh my God, that's you." When I said that the particles moved rapidly around again and had this messy hair, a braid over the shoulder, and a hoodie. "Holy shit that's me." Then the figure waved at me and I went to wave back but Katy closed her hand which made the figure disappear. I was so sad. Cute little me just went like that. Probably one way the world might turn out to be one day.

"I don't use magic unless some demon were to attack me."

"They attack you? For what?"

She sighed, "Revenge. They want to destroy this school, ruin everything that my family has built up, and kill us off one by one until our family truly no longer exists."

That was deep, "Well I will be training with you so I can help defend your family and NOT let that happen."

"You don't have to." She looks away

"Well... I don't want you to die!"

Katy looked at me shocked, "D-don't worry about me."

I immediately responded, "Why not? You are a young little cute girl. You can't do this on your own. That war was massive, there is no way you will be able to handle it on your own."

"It's hard for me to offer trust to people that easily." I felt like she was making up an excuse.

"Why don't you trust me? I'm learning how to fight quickly and have been getting used to your fighting style. There are a lot of demons out there and instead of just you killing them all, we can do it together. Fight them off and let off some of that weight on your shoulder. I can tell you haven't been doing so w-" She interrupted me by kissing me on the forehead. My heart completely stopped and my body went still.

"You're so naive. I wouldn't allow you to put your life at risk for my sake."

"No." I stood up, "Not gonna let that happen. I am going to protect you as a special assistant of yours. Even if you beg for me to not help you, I will still be there. No matter what the cost is."

Katy sighed again as if she was annoyed, "Fine, but you got to do me one thing."

"What's that?"

She blushes like the little girl that she is. I can tell she is normally shy and never really got close with anyone like this. "I need some help with my biology class"

When she said that, I thought it was completely random but she was skipping classes. "What?"

"You know I have been skipping class and the exams are coming up soon and I don't understand anything. I really can't afford to fail this semester and be held back."

I guess she got lost and seemed uninterested in the class which is why she fell asleep on my first day. "Oh okay, sure. I will be glad to help you."

She smiled, "Yey."

We went back home and I was happy with how productive we were today. This time she tells me to wake up extra early tomorrow and be at the park by six in the morning to get some extra training done before class. Which was going to be the normal routine from now on. I took a shower, treated myself to some sushi and enjoyed my night. Get some good rest because tomorrow is another but tougher day.

I woke up to my alarm on my phone. I never liked it since it would scare me so much I would slam my phone and I risk the screen getting cracked. Good thing I got used to it now but I would get a minor shock when it rings. You can tell I don't like when, all of a sudden, loud noises fill up the room. Well, it is almost time for me to meet up with Katy so I did. When I got my equipment and normal clothes on I dashed to the park. I left my uniform because I would assume we would take a shower before going to class instead of having dust and dirt all over our faces. The next thing we definitely want is the teachers to think we had a fight.
