Chapter 45

“University Memorial Auditorium. Actually, when Noah told me we were invited to lunch, I made a couple of telephone calls and arranged to have access to the organ at three this afternoon. The instrument and the hall are mine for at least a couple of hours. You’re welcome to come and listen.”

“Count on it,” Mrs. Walker said.

They finished their lunch and visited in the living room for a while. At two thirty, Tom said, “I think we need to head over to the campus. I have to meet Dr. Rodgers at three.”

“Can we all go in one car?” Noah said.

“If your grandparents won’t find a two-hour practice session boring. It’s up to them.”

“We’ll be happy to ride with you young people,” Mrs. Walker said. “We don’t exactly have much of a schedule these days.”

On the way down University Avenue, Mr. Walker said, “This is an impressive set of wheels for a struggling musician.”

“My mother keeps giving me her cast-off cars,” Tom said, and explained.
