Chapter 66

“You will sign a complaint, won’t you, Tom?” George said. “Not that it’s really necessary, given that I’m a witness.”

“You bet I will,” Tom said.

“I think you should try to get a restraining order, as well,” George said, “one that would forbid this guy from coming within a thousand yards or so of either you or Noah.”

“Yeah,” Tom said, “that sounds like a very good idea.”

“However,” George said, “it might not be that simple.”

“Why?” Tom said.

“You’re not related to this guy by blood or marriage, nor does he live in this house. As I understand it, because of that, you wouldn’t qualify for a domestic restraining order, which is a civil matter. But, there are restraining orders in the criminal courts. I suggest you talk to your attorney—he’ll know what to do.”

The patrol car arrived and Mr. Webster was taken away.

“What about Dad’s car?” Noah said.

“It will be towed and impounded,” George said.

“What do we do now?” Tom said.
