Chapter 79

While Tom went to the studio to call the insurance agent, Noah sat down at the keyboard and depressed a few keys. The piano had a gorgeous tone, and its ebony finish would gleam after a little polish was applied. He thought about doing that as a surprise, but caution stopped him. Tom returned from the studio carrying some sheet music and said, “Okay, it’s covered effective right now. He’s going to stop by on his way home from work and take a couple of pictures for his files. I also called an alarm company. They’ll be here first thing in the morning.”

“I’m surprised they could act that quickly.”

“Somebody had just canceled an appointment, and it was in this part of town.”

“I think we need to plan to either go to Atlanta by way of Charlotte or return from Atlanta that way,” Noah said, “so you can thank your great-grandmother in person.”
