Chapter 97

“I need some serving spoons,” George said.

“To the right of the sink,” Tom said, “second drawer down.”

He carried a corkscrew and a couple of bottles of wine to the dining room and asked Noah to get glasses out of the china cabinet. He returned to the kitchen just in time to hear George say, “Come and get it.”

George identified the dishes as containing, respectively, picadillo, black beans, rice, and fried plantains.

“Be sure you try some of everything, Bobby,” Noah said. “I assure you that it’s all good.”

“We haven’t actually had the plantains before,” Tom said, “but I’ve no doubt they will be as good as everything else. I thought you said you didn’t know how to make them, George?”

“Janet made them for us,” George said.

“Janet?” he said.

“Lieutenant Sanchez,” George said. “I think she was over here with Carl earlier today.”

“Oh yeah,” Tom said. “I thought she looked sort of Hispanic.”

“She’s half-Cuban and half-Irish.”
