Chapter 111

“Then we’ll see you at the church,” Father DeVaney said.

The secretary led them to where George and Carl were waiting. Mike and Jim were with them.

George and Carl rode in the limo with them to the church, and Chad got in the car with Mike and Jim.

At the church, Noah and Bobby remained in the vestibule to wait for the arrival of the hearse, and Tom went to the organ and settled on the bench. George and Carl followed him down the aisle and took seats in the front row of choir pews. Tom was pleased to note that the organ was a fairly new three-manual Allen. He placed the music he’d brought with him on the music rack, turned on the organ, selected a few stops, and began to play. By the time people had begun to wander into the sanctuary and settle down in the pews, he’d developed a reasonably adequate feel for the organ and its capabilities.
