“I knew there was another reason why I love you so much. Come over here and let me show you the rest of them.”

Rumbling stomachs eventually drove them downstairs to the kitchen in search of food. Fortunately, there were enough leftovers in the refrigerator to make an adequate late-evening meal. After supper, they settled down in the upstairs porch with Tom’s laptop on the coffee table.

“Mr. Cooper charges by the hour,” Tom said, “and there’s no need to pay him to read every document in these two drawers.”

Using the laptop, they prepared a list of the contents of the file drawers, giving each document’s date and a short précis of its contents. It was nearly midnight by the time they’d finished. They addressed an e-mail to the attorney, asking him to let them know which documents he actually needed to see, and sent the list of document contents along as a file attachment. They also printed out a couple of copies.
