Chapter 120

Bobby and Chad had already eaten and taken off in Chad’s car, but Noah had waited to have lunch with him. They finished their lunch, cleaned up the kitchen, and went upstairs to bed. Afterward, Tom spent a couple of hours at the organ, and when he took a brief break, Noah asked for his help with the music he’d worked on earlier. They’d just finished running through the fourth number, and he was about to critique it for Noah when he heard applause.

“Hi, guys,” Tom said. “We didn’t hear you come home.”

“When we heard the singing,” Chad said, “we sat down in the living room to listen. Is that something you’re working on for church?”

“Not even close,” Noah said. “It’s for my senior recital, which I have to perform before I graduate.”

“What time would you guys like to eat?” Chad said. “We just got back from Publix.”

“No rush,” Tom said. “Noah and I had a late lunch. The timing of dinner can be at the chef’s pleasure.”
