Chapter 29

AFTER DINNER THAT evening, when he and Mickey were alone on the porch, Chris told Mickey about the call, which had been from the doctor at the Mayo Clinic.

“That’s good news,” Mickey said.

“Yeah, but I’m not going to get my hopes up. My appointment isn’t for a month or so, and I’ll deal with it then. At the moment we have more important things to discuss.”

“Such as?”

“Ted has a birthday coming up, and we need to arrange a party for him.”

“Babe, I have no idea how to arrange a birthday party for a kid.”

“Neither do I, but I’m going to consult someone who’s been there and done that.”

“Who would that be?” Mickey said.

Chris told him.

“Yeah, I think you’re onto something there. By the way, when is Ted’s first appointment with the shrink?”

“He’s not a shrink, Mickey. He’s a psychologist.”

“Yeah, I sit corrected. So when is his first appointment?”

“Next week.”

“That’s good.”

“Yeah, and Ted’s school physical is tomorrow after work.”
