“Babe, what are you thinking?” Mickey said.

“Something really ugly.”

“Sharing it might help, it usually does. Besides, how much uglier could it get?”

“I can barely put what I’m thinking into words,” Chris said.

“Try.”

“What if… what if she was turning tricks during those years?”

“What if she was? I don’t see the connection between that and Ted,” Mickey said.

“Maybe… just maybe…. What if my little brother was part of the deal?”

“You’ve gotta be kidding… aren’t you?” Mickey said.

“I’m not kidding, Mick, and the thought makes me want to rush downstairs and give that little boy the hug of his life.”

“You’d better save that for bedtime when it isn’t so obvious that you’ve been crying.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right.”

“There were a lot of papers in that folder,” Mickey said. “What else is in there?”
