Chapter 9

“And I told him that Ted was being homeschooled, but Mr. Hewell didn’t like it very much.”

“Why ever not?” Parah said.

“Because we don’t have a Notification of Intent to Establish a Home Education Program under the provisions of Section 1007.01, Florida Statutes on file, as required by law, that’s why,” Hewell said.

“Actually, I believe it’s Section 1003.01 of the statutes,” Sarah said, “but that doesn’t matter.”

“Why not?” Hewell said.

“Because Ted is enrolled in the Clark School.”

“Clark School? Never heard of it.”

“When Chris asked us to homeschool Ted, we realized that the bloated bureaucracy of the school board would become involved at some point, so my sister and I filed the necessary paperwork required by section 1002.01(2), Florida Statutes to establish a private school.”

“Ted is our first, and currently our only, student,” Parah said.

“But that will change next year when we take on one or two more students,” Sarah said.
