Chapter 10

“No harm done,” Chris said. “I was happy to see you put that guy in his place.”

“Yes, it was kind of satisfying, wasn’t it,” Sarah said, and smiled.

“Do you think he’ll be back?”

“Not as long as we file the necessary paperwork,” Parah said. “People like him are all about dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s. Once that’s taken care of, they tend to move on to the next case at hand.”

Conversation ceased when Ted walked into the living room and said, “I’m done.”

“Good,” Parah said. “You can walk your brother home before we start the next lesson.”

CHRIS AND TED walked slowly down the Clark driveway and across the street. By the time they reached the front door of their house, Chris was leaning on Ted. He was still leaning on Ted as he inserted his key in the lock and opened the door.

“Want me to help you upstairs?” Ted said.

“Please… no, wait a minute, my lunch is in the fridge.”

“Tell me what it is, and I’ll bring it to you.”
