Chapter 32

“Yeah,” Mickey said. “And he was on your bed last night when I went to bed, but when I told him to go to his own bed, he did.”

“I’m sorry,” Ted said. “I tried to make him get on his own bed, but he wouldn’t stay there.”

“Don’t worry about it, kiddo,” Mickey said. “We’ll eventually get him trained.”

“That we will,” Chris said.

They visited until Mickey looked at his watch and said, “It’s time for Ted to go to school and for me to go to work.”

“That’s right, run off and leave me here.”

“Trying to lay a guilt trip on me, are you?”

“Yeah. Did it work?”

“No, it didn’t. There’s a limit to how much time I can take off, you know.”

“I know, and I was just having a pity-me moment. Don’t worry about it.”

“If you’re feeling well enough to complain, you must be getting better.”

“That’s what they tell me.”

Ted gave Chris a hug and Mickey kissed him.

“See you this evening.”

“You’re not coming back on your lunch break?”
