Chapter 14

We drove over to Kevin’s house in two cars, and when he identified the cars in his driveway, he said that both of his roommates were home. They were, in fact, sitting on the patio at the rear of the house, beer cans in hand.

Kevin introduced me to Roger, whom I hadn’t met; then he said, “I have an announcement to make.”

“You’re moving in with David,” Jeff said.

“How did you know?”

“Dude, we’ve seen it coming for weeks, and I’ve already got dibs on the master bedroom.”

“Yeah,” Roger said, “and I know somebody who wants to take over Jeff’s room, if the rent is the same.”

“Well,” Kevin said, “that settles that. I’ll have my room totally cleaned out by the end of the month, and all you guys need to do is decide whose name to have the utilities transferred to.”

“We’ll get it handled,” Jeff said.

As we were carrying loads of Kevin’s clothes to the cars, I said, “Neither Jeff nor Roger look very gay.”

“That would be because they’re not. Both of them are straight as arrows.”
