Chapter 33

In the end, we were saved by Kevin’s grandmother, who insisted that we needed to get home so that the girl watching her husband could go home to her own family.

That night, as we snuggled in the confined space of a double bed, Kevin said, “Now you know I wasn’t exaggerating.”

“Yeah. That’s for sure. I have to admit it—I kind of thought you were.”

On the other hand, his grandmother was a nice lady who clearly enjoyed our company, and we almost hated to leave the next day. However, we’d made a commitment to fly home by way of Charlotte. Mrs. Simpson hugged both of us good-bye and wished us a safe flight.

We had a quiet Friday evening and Saturday with my parents and were home by Sunday afternoon—more than a little bit eager to be back in our own comfortable bed.
