“He’s been making loud noises, not to mention he has the ear of someone in City Hall.”
“She’s mentioned him a few times, and she doesn’t like him very much.”
“Why?”
“Lots of reasons, I think, but mostly because her late husband named his brother trustee for the kids. The bastard sold life insurance, and there’s a huge policy, like a million dollars or something, the proceeds of which are to be administered by the brother until the kids come of age.”
“Let me make a phone call, Deb, and then I want to formally interview you back at the house.”
“Whatever.”
I took out my cell phone and dialed Janet. “Hi, boss,” she said when she answered.
“Are you busy?”
“Never too busy for you, boss.”
“Good. Can you meet me at my house in, say, thirty minutes?”
“Sure. Can I ask why?”
“Because the two of us are going to interview somebody who has enough information to possibly break the tower murder case, that’s why.”
“Wow. That would tempt me even if I was busy. See you in thirty.”
