“I’ll fax some preliminary forms to you right now. Sign them and fax them back, and I’ll set things in motion.”

“You got it.”

“By the way, I have a bit of good news.”

“That being?”

“Lieutenant Martin is a member of the City and Police Federal Credit Union, which entitles him to certain breaks on fees and interest rates. He’s a tough negotiator and wore me down until I finally agreed to match their fees and rates.”

“I did?” I said.

“That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it. For both our sakes, I trust that you will, as well.”

“Not a problem,” I said. “It was a pleasure getting the best of you in this deal.”

“What do you want me to do with the balance of the proceeds, Mike?”

“George and I need to set up a joint account to handle expenses,” Mike said. “Why don’t you overnight signature cards and stuff to us here, and you can fund the new account with the proceeds.”

“FedEx in care of the motel address you gave me?”

“Yes.”
