“I can make do with cold,” she said.
“We brought lunch for everybody,” Mike said, and began to open the bags.
At Wally World we’d purchased four folding card table-type chairs, and we put them to good use while we ate. One of the boys sat on the floor in lieu of a chair.
“Didn’t you guys say that you had some experience at painting houses?” I said.
“You bet we do,” Zeb/Zeke said. “Why?”
“The outside of this cabin needs a good coat of stain, and the deck needs waterproofing and stain also. Ever done anything like that?”
“You bet,” they said. “We’ve done a fair amount of that sort of thing for folks, haven’t we, Ma?”
“Yes, they have.”
“We have to go home early Sunday morning,” Mike said, “but think it over, give us a price on doing the whole cabin and the deck, and maybe we can come to terms.”
“We probably won’t be back before Labor Day weekend,” I said, “so you’d have the rest of the summer to do it.”
