“We will, eventually,” I said. “Remember, this weekend is only the third time we’ve actually stayed in the cabin.”
Sarah eventually excused herself to go start dinner, and we stayed on the deck with the captain. Before it got dark, we showed the captain how to set the alarm, then Mike pulled the rental car out of the garage and handed Captain Bridges the clicker.
“You can bring your car inside if you like,” he said.
“Are you sure?”
“We’ll be out of here around four thirty. The rental car can sit outside for one night.”
Captain Bridges pulled his car into the garage and shut the door. On the deck, he said, “If you don’t mind me asking, what did you have to pay for this place?”
“The asking price was three hundred thousand, but we got it for two hundred seventy-seven, including closing costs,” I said.
“It had been on the market for almost two years and was overpriced,” Mike said.
“You got a good deal,” he said.
