While we were there, we urged them to try on some loose-fitting gym shorts so they would be more comfortable when they were doing yard work, and they did so. We also bought them jockstraps, flip-flops, sunglasses, and a couple of bottles of heavy-duty sunscreen. We went through the checkout lane, and they made their purchases. Mike and I paid for some of the gear, but the boys insisted on paying for their Speedos. Mike had raised both eyebrows at me when the boys modeled their Speedos. Both of them were either hung like horses or were semi-tumescent. They would get a lot of attention on the beach, and I found myself wondering if we ought to have a word with them about strange men.
We took them to the Pizza Italian, where we recommended the pizza, the lasagna, or the meatball sandwich. They weren’t familiar with lasagna but accepted our recommendation. Over the course of dinner, we finally prevailed upon them to call us by our first names.
