“No agenda. If you guys want to explore the area, feel free to take the car. We’ll just sit around and enjoy things right here. Sometime tomorrow, Mike and I have to go to a nursery and order some shrubs and stuff. Fall is a good planting time, and we want to get the twins started working on the landscaping before we go home.”
The timer rang, and I went inside to turn the steaks over. I returned to the deck, set the timer again, and relaxed. I’d just finished my wine when the timer dinged. I went to the kitchen and took the steaks out. I also checked one of the potatoes and decided they needed just a few more minutes. While I was waiting for them to finish cooking, I got out the produce we’d picked up, as we always did, and filled a huge salad bowl with lettuce and tomatoes.
Back on the deck, I said, “By the time you guys set the table, dinner will be ready.”
