“Glad you’re awake,” he said. “Food’s almost ready. Go wake Mike up, will you?”
I went down the hall and opened the bedroom door. Thor looked up from the bed, nose twitching. He smelled food.
I shook Mike’s shoulder. “Time to wake up, sleeping beauty,” I said. “Time to eat too.”
I went to the bathroom, splashed some water in my face, then went to the kitchen. “Anything I can do?” I said the ladies, who were bustling about.
“Sit yourself down,” Sarah said. “It’s under control.”
“Yes, Ma’am.” I went to the great room and sat in an armchair. Bob Plott was leaning back on the sofa.
“They just ran me out of the kitchen,” I said.
“They have a way of doing that,” he said.
“Shall I build a fire in the fireplace?”
“Sure, why not?”
I got up and made myself busy. Mike turned up just in time to help me. “Where’s Thor?” I said.
“I left him in the bedroom, what with all the food smells out here.”
“Good idea.”
We had a nice crackling fire going in no time.
