We all sat quiet for a minute.
“Look,” Derek began, “now that we know that
we’re okay with Gentry, does that make it easier for you to think
about last night?”
“Yeah, it does,” I said, and then I paused
for a minute. “But I still need time to think. A lot happened last
night, a lot we had never discussed. I didn’t see that coming from
a million miles away.”
“But surely you had some idea,” Wyn
protested.
“I’m not saying that there hasn’t been some
attraction,” I said, “but stuff like that happens in friendships
all the time. I just didn’t expect anyone to act on it. I had never
really thought about the gay thing, let alone done anything about
it, until last night. I don’t know what I’m feeling.”
“Which is how we thought you might feel,”
Derek said. “We thought that maybe it would be good for you to have
a place to get away and think today.”
“So, our chauffeur is ready to take you away
to a family place we have nearby in Shark Beach. We thought if you
