They started to come to a stop and then
turned so that they were swimming parallel with the shore. This
must be the moment. I let go of their fins and let myself fall into
the water between them as they continued to move. Just as they
passed me I tried to run toward shore. I was still in waist deep
water. This was not good.
I looked at the sharks. They had almost
stopped. Together, they made a quick turn and reversed their
course. Although still swimming parallel to shore, they were now
coming in my direction. I kept moving closer to shore. I was at
least five feet closer to the shore than they were. It looked as if
they would pass me. They couldn’t get too close.
Suddenly. One of them turned. The one
closest to shore turned toward me a few feet before he would have
passed me. He turned and went under. The next thing I knew I felt
his snout collide with my butt. I flew through the air for a few
seconds, and then I felt myself slam into the water.
