“Two adult females and their luggage will limit the amount of cargo you and Dani can bring with you,” he said.


“We can get rid of some things if we must. The biggest problem will be passports.”


“That will take some time to arrange. Your mother was born in Italy, and I can probably obtain a valid Italian passport for her fairly quickly—bribery is a way of life in Italy. The housekeeper is another matter; that may take some time to arrange.”


“That’s okay. If they can’t return with us, I can afford to purchase commercial tickets for them at a later date.”


“I wonder why your grandmother extended the invitation?”


“First, I think she genuinely wants to see her daughter after all these years; second, it seems clear to me—and Dani agrees—that she deeply and bitterly resents what my grandfather did back then, and she isn’t too happy with the current Conteeither.
