Chapter 72

“That was an interesting little man,” Marco said, watching the car recede from view.

“That interesting little man,” I said, “just wrote you a very large check.”

“How large?”

“See for yourself.”

I handed him the check, and his eyes grew wide.

“This is for €100,000.”

“Seventy-two bottles of very valuable wine, at an average of over one thousand per bottle. He’ll probably get a third more than that for the wine when it’s in his shop, but it may take him a while. On the other hand, well established dealers like SignorPicano have lists of well-heeled customers they can call when they acquire wines like these.”

“That’s gonna pay for a lot of paint.”

“I told you it would.”

“You did well, Dani—very well indeed.”

I’ll be sure to remind you of that tonight when we’re in bed,I thought.

“How did you know the price he offered was fair?” Marco’s grandmother said.
