Chapter 41

“Thanks, Grandma. By the way, did the doctor call?”

“Yes, he did,” she said. “He called while he was making his morning rounds.”

“Did you learn anything from him?” Nate said.

“Nothing we didn’t already know,” she said. “He merely confirmed what the nurses told us.”

They ate in silence for several minutes, until Mr. Wilson said, “Did you say you were going to be working on a divorce case today, Quentin?”

“Yes, Sir,” Quentin said. “Divorce work is my least favorite thing to do, but it’s the bread and butter of any private investigator’s business.”

“Sounds like you don’t enjoy your work,” Mr. Wilson said.

“I’m good at what I do, and I enjoy most of it. On the other hand, I don’t enjoy that particular aspect of my job,” Quentin said. “Following people around, hoping to catch them in flagrante delictoisn’t my idea of fun, but it pays the bills during the dry spells between the interesting jobs.”

“Tell us about one of the interesting ones,” Mrs. Wilson said.
