Chapter 40

“That’s very generous of you,” Quentin said.

“No matter what she’s done, she’s still our daughter,” Mr. Wilson said.

“Do you know when that will happen?” Quentin said.

“They’re going to get her on the waiting list for a bed,” Mrs. Wilson said. “There are a couple of hospice facilities a mile or so south of the city, but they’re full right now.”

“When that happens, we’ll fly down to Jacksonville, and ask you boys to drive us to Ocala,” Mr. Wilson said. When we get here, we’ll rent a car, so we can go back and forth to visit her.”

“Just tell us when, Grandpa,” Nate said. “There’s no need for you to rent a car—you’re welcome to use mine.”

“That’s nice of you, dear,” Mrs. Wilson said. “But you need it to go to work, don’t you?”

“Yeah, now that you mention it, I do,” Nate said.

“Then it’s settled,” Mr. Wilson said. “As soon as she’s in the hospice facility, we’ll do just what I said.”

“I hope that doesn’t mean you’re going back to Chattanooga tomorrow or anything,” Nate said.
