Mitch Edwards has it made: at twenty-nine, he’s just been named partner at one of the largest law firms in the city and he’s just bought his first house. “I so want to sit on this thing right now,” he said.


“Later. You need to go sell some houses, don’t you?”


“I have associates handling sales. When an associate makes a sale, the house gets a cut, and I’m the house.”


“Whatever. All I’m saying is that I don’t need to be relentlessly entertained. Besides, I feel another nap coming on.”


“Have at it. If you get thirsty, there’s a couple of cans of Sprite on the nightstand. They’re in a small bucket of ice, so they should stay cool for a while.”


“Have I told you today how much I love you?”


“You just did. However much it is, it’s not as much as I love you, so there. Now get some rest. Do you want the gown back on?”


“I’m comfortable just lying here naked.”
