“Babe,” Rion said, after I’d looked at and discarded a dozen toys, “Jamie is bound to have a ton of toys and stuff.”
“Yeah, but he needs to have at least a couple of things from us.”
“Okay, but we’re wasting valuable painting time.”
We selected a couple of toys and left that department. On the way to the checkout counter, Rion said, “We need sheets and stuff.”
“Did you forget all the linens I brought from my house?”
“No, but what we need are sheets and bedspreads for little boys—you know, with kiddie-type designs on them.”
“Let’s go back to housewares, or whatever they call it.”
We selected two sets of sheets for Jamie’s bed—a blue set, featuring sailboats, and a different set containing animal prints. Both sets included curtains that matched the bedspread.
“That’s much better,” Rion said.
