Chapter 25

Sure enough, as soon as Mark had his club soda, Weber raised his glass. “To old friends and new.” His gaze was fastened on Ben-David.

Veryinteresting.

His family echoed his words. I smiled at Mark, nodded toward Ben-David, and took a sip.

I found it surprisingly good, not to mention a little familiar. “Did you get this champagne from the winery that supplies Aunt Pitty Pat’s?” I asked Reddy.

“As a matter of fact, yes. They supply a good deal of my wines.”

“We visited yesterday and sampled the champagne. I purchased a case.”

“You’ve got a knowledgeable palate. It’s good stuff.”

“It is.”

Just then a couple of waiters came out of the kitchen, and we began lunch with a spinach pomegranate salad made with walnuts, alfalfa sprouts, and feta cheese and drizzled with a balsamic vinaigrette.

Once we finished the salad, the entrée of chicken with apricots and green onion latkes was brought out.
