Chapter 49

“Give me the key, Mark.”

I pressed the button on the fob that unlocked the SUV and handed him the keys. While he walked around the hood, I opened the door and maneuvered myself up onto the front seat. Then I took out my cell phone and pulled up the Balm’s number.

Quinn got behind the wheel and inserted the key into the ignition.

“Balm, it’s Vincent. I’ll be staying in LA for a while longer, so I’ll make my own flight arrangements when I’m ready to return. You can head on back to DC in the morning.”

“Thank you, Mr. Vincent. The Boss told me he has no need for the jet just now, so I thought I’d… uh… pay a visit to Savannah.”

“Okay. Give Weber my best.”

He started to choke, and I hung up, grinning.

“What’s got that smile on your face?”

“I think Tom Weber made a conquest.”

“Yes? Being involved with a WBIS agent can be an adventure. I hope they’ll be happy together.”

I reached across and squeezed his knee. That was Quinn, cool and unflappable to the core.
